In this talk we describe advances on the design and development of a knowledge and information system environment for managing research products. The system design and architecture are based on a set of knowledge repositories, a network of knowledge agents and data mining techniques for representing knowledge and generating reports, statistics, and trends on research productivity. The agents use an ontology for representing a taxonomy of scientific publications and technology developments that standardize terminology and a search engine for navigating on the set of repositories. Web services are used for communicating the environment with other internal and external information systems and updating knowledge and data bases. The system has been operational for about two years and has proved useful in supporting researchers work and evaluating research performance.
